Advanced Speed Management and Defensive Trucking (ASMDT)

The Advanced Speed Management and Defensive Trucking (ASMDT) course is designed to help professional CDL drivers understand the physics behind motion, mass, and momentum — and how these forces affect safety, control, and stopping distance. Through a blend of scientific principles and real-world defensive techniques, drivers learn to manage vehicle speed intelligently, anticipate hazards, and prevent collisions before they happen.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the relationship between speed, mass, and kinetic energy, and how it impacts crash severity.
- Accurately calculate and manage safe stopping distances under varying weather and road conditions.
- Identify and correct reckless driving behaviors such as tailgating, unsafe lane changes, or speeding in reduced-traction environments.
- Apply advanced scanning and hazard recognition strategies to predict and avoid high-risk situations.
- Understand FMCSA speed regulations and the legal penalties for Serious Traffic Violations (STVs).
