Traffic Control Compliance and Intersection Safety (TCCIS)

Intersections, signals, and work zones are among the most complex and high-risk environments a commercial driver encounters. The Traffic Control Compliance and Intersection Safety (TCCIS) course is designed to equip CDL drivers with the knowledge, judgment, and discipline required to navigate these areas safely, legally, and with full regulatory compliance.
This course provides in-depth training on CDL-specific traffic control requirements, including roadway signage, intersection timing, railroad crossings, and temporary construction zones. Drivers learn how to accurately interpret traffic control devices, apply critical decision-making principles such as the “Point of No Return,” and execute safe, compliant actions in time-sensitive situations. The training focuses on preventing violations, reducing liability, and reinforcing professional driving standards in high-enforcement zones.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Recognize and comply with CDL-specific signs, signals, and roadway markings, including weight limits, clearance warnings, and route restrictions.
- Apply the “Point of No Return” principle to make safe and legal stop-or-go decisions at intersections.
- Execute proper railroad crossing procedures, including mandatory stops, hazard awareness, and full vehicle clearance.
- Operate safely in temporary traffic control zones by following flagger instructions, reduced speed limits, and lane restrictions.
- Understand how violations in intersections and work zones are classified as Serious Traffic Violations (STVs) under FMCSA regulations.
